Dear Gordon:

We have been intending to construct a central file computer for our computer
collection. We would then hope to gradually modify
our operating systems so that a user program would not need to know whether a
file was on his machine's disk or was stored in the file computer.

Our idea was to use a VAX with several RP20s which the computer would access
through the Ethernet. The VAX is your most cost-effective system and the
RP20 the most cost-effective mass storage.

We were told that the RP-20 is not available for the VAX. We were asked why we
didn't use a DEC System 20. We might do this if we could snap up a used 20,
but it occurred to me that you are a VAX enthusiast and might be interested in
helping us realize our original plan.

If you think you might be able to help, please let me know.
